IPNG CZH614 Classic Mini Clubman 1275GT lower front grille grommets – set of three

Classic Mini Clubman & 1275GT Grille Fixing Guide – CZH614 Lower Grommets

Missing, cracked or loose front grille fixings are a common issue during a Classic Mini Clubman or 1275GT restoration. One easily overlooked part is CZH614, the small grommet that receives a locating tab on the lower edge of the radiator grille.

Although CZH614 is often called a grille fixing clip, grille retaining clip, grille mounting clip or lower grille fastener, the original Mini parts description identifies it more precisely as a lower grille locating grommet.

This guide explains exactly where the three CZH614 grommets are used, how they differ from the upper grille fasteners, which Clubman grille designs they relate to, and how to replace them without damaging the grille.

What Is Classic Mini Part Number CZH614?

CZH614 is the original British Leyland reference for the lower radiator grille locating grommet — grille to body on the square-front Classic Mini Clubman family. These grommets are fitted at the grille's lower mounting points so that the corresponding locating tabs or lugs can sit correctly in the body panel.

Quantity required: three (3) for the compatible front grille. This is why the IPNG Automotive CZH614 replacement kit (IP-0041) is supplied as a complete set of three.

Where Do the Three CZH614 Grille Grommets Fit?

The three CZH614 grommets locate the lower edge of the central front grille on the Clubman/1275GT nose. They receive the lower locating lugs of the grille in the corresponding body-panel mounting points.

They are not the upper screws used to secure the grille or the separate screws retaining the outer grille/headlamp surround panels. If the top of the grille is loose, check those fixings separately before assuming CZH614 is the cause.

Clubman, Clubman Estate and 1275GT Fitment

The CZH614 lower grille grommet is catalogued for Classic Mini Clubman saloons, Clubman estates and the 1275GT square-front models. Confirm that your vehicle retains the correct original-style grille and lower locating-tab arrangement, particularly if it has been modified or fitted with an aftermarket front panel.

Vehicle / grille Original centre-grille reference Lower grommet
Clubman saloon / estate, 1969–1975 CZH672 CZH614 × 3
1275GT, 1969–1975 CZH1200 CZH614 × 3
Clubman / 1275GT, 1976-on catalogue arrangement CZH4372 CZH614 × 3

These centre-grille numbers are provided to help identify the grille family: they are not substitutes for CZH614. The roundnose Mini uses a different front-end and grille arrangement, so this kit should not be assumed to fit roundnose grilles.

CZH614 vs Upper Grille Screws and Other Fixings

The Clubman parts catalogue separates the lower locating grommets from the conventional grille and outer-panel fasteners.

OE reference Function Typical catalogue quantity
CZH614 Grommet for lower grille locating tab to body 3
36052Z Self-tapping screw, central grille to body 3
36052Z Self-tapping screw, outer grille panels to body 4
PWZ103 / WA702101 Plain washer, dependent on parts catalogue As required for screw positions
GFK3428 Nylon fixing nut As required for screw positions

Important: IPNG's IP-0041 contains only the three CZH614-style lower grommets. Upper grille screws, washers, nuts, grille sections and surrounding trim are not included.

How to Remove a Classic Mini Clubman Front Grille

Difficulty: 2/5. Estimated time: approximately 15–30 minutes, depending on corrosion and the grille's condition.

  1. Park safely, switch off the engine and allow hot components behind the grille to cool.
  2. Identify and remove the existing screws securing the central grille and the adjacent outer/headlamp-extension panels as required by your particular assembly. Support the parts to avoid bending thin trim.
  3. Carefully lift away the outer extension panels where needed to free the central grille.
  4. With the upper fixings released, gently disengage the three lower locating lugs from the CZH614 grommets in the lower body panel. Avoid levering on the grille slats or pulling against any fixings still attached.
  5. Inspect the grille's tabs and the body-panel holes for distortion, corrosion or damage before fitting replacement grommets.

Do not force the grille if it does not lift free: locate any remaining screws or trim fixing points first.

How to Fit Replacement CZH614 Lower Grille Grommets

  1. Remove loose, cracked or damaged original lower grommets from their body-panel locations. Clean the mounting points without altering the original hole sizes.
  2. Check that the replacement grommets match the existing CZH614-style mounting arrangement.
  3. Seat the three new grommets correctly in the lower body-panel positions. They should sit fully located without distorting the surrounding metal.
  4. Offer the grille into position and align all three lower locating lugs with the new grommets.
  5. Gently engage the lower locating tabs without forcing or bending the grille; check for even alignment.
  6. Refit the central grille and outer-panel screws, washers and nylon nuts as applicable to your car. Do not overtighten the fasteners into aged panels or plastic fittings.
  7. Check the grille is properly seated along its lower edge, that the upper fixings are secure and that nothing can contact the radiator or fan.

If a locating tab is damaged or the metal mounting hole has been enlarged by corrosion, fitting a new grommet alone may not resolve the problem; repair the damaged mounting features first.

Common Clubman Grille Fixing Problems

The bottom of the grille moves or rattles

Inspect the three lower CZH614 locations for missing or damaged grommets and check that each grille locating tab is present and seated. Upper screws can also contribute to a loose assembly.

The grille will not line up with the screw holes

Make sure all three lower tabs are aligned and engaged before tightening the upper and outer fixings. Check whether the grille, surrounding extension pieces or body panel has been bent or previously repaired.

One of the lower mounting tabs is broken

A replacement grommet cannot recreate a missing metal grille tab. Repair or replace the damaged grille component rather than relying on the grommet alone.
